Fashion short about a dress that time travels.
Four Ribbons to Hokoten is a film about a dress that time travels. Spanning three generations and crossing continents, this quirky fashion short revolves around mothers, daughters, love, loss and the importance of dressing up.
Written and directed by Scottish filmmaker and fashion editor Diana Kiernander, the film is visually styled as an editorial shoot. Elements of fantasy and surrealism act as the backdrop to a story where the narrative revolves around a beautiful dress being objectified in the film. Over a shifting time-frame, the dress comes to embody the hopes, dreams and desires of it wearer. The film is shot on super 8 and digital, therefore reflecting the shifting time the tale inhabits.
Four Ribbons to Hokoten stars Missy Malone, an established Burlesque dancer and actress and Erik Sandberg, singer with ‘Wake the President’ & co-founder of the esteemed Glasgow record label ‘Say Dirty.’ The film was shot in various locations in Edinburgh with technical assistance from the folks at Jarprocess.
